Detailed documentation ordered from RMDC for SKS 165 double ended gas fuelled passenger car ferries
In February 2012 Remontowa Shipbuilding (RSB) and Norled, Norway signed a contract for two SKS 165 type double ended car passenger ferries according to LMG Marin basic design. Following this agreement RMDC received from Remontowa Shipbuilding (RSB) an order for detailed documentation for these vessels while LMG Marin, Bergen entrusted to RMDC a part of the classification design and complete electrical drawings. The vessels will have an overall length of 123.70 m and moulded beam of 17.65 m. Their capacity will be 165 personal cars and 550 passengers. The propulsion will be diesel electric with four generating sets burning LNG, two of which two will be fuelled in emergency from CNG tanks. RMDC has a wide experience in designing small ferries for Norwegian and UK shipowners the first ships being built as early as in 1999. Its proven track record includes eleven different designs of double ended ferries as well as seven different designs of bow loaded ferries. Apart from designs prepared together with Norwegian and UK designers RMDC has shown that it is able to design small ferries on its own what was proven by the in house design of a series of SKS 125 type double ended gas fuelled car passenger ferries built for Fjord 1 MRF and headed with M/V Moldefjord. The present design will be the third with LNG propulsion prepared by RMDC and built by RSB. Moreover RMDC and RSB are among the very few companies in Europe which have a proven track record with design and building vessels with LNG propulsion.
