On Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. shipyard in Gdańsk, part of the REMONTOWA HOLDING S.A. Capital Group, a keel-laying ceremony took place for the next vessel in the series of modern Kormoran II-class minehunters – ORP Czajka.
Due to difficult weather conditions, the ceremony was moved to the shipyard's Main Hall, where guests could observe the process of welding a commemorative medal into the keel of the newly constructed vessel live. The ceremony also included the presentation of a certificate confirming readiness for this stage and the signing of the relevant protocol.
The construction of vessel 258/6 began two months ago with the cutting of the first steel plate. The next stage, the keel laying, marks the completion of the preliminary hull prefabrication phase and the start of assembling the vessel into its full structure.
The modern Kormoran II-class minehunters are characterized by high maneuverability, low physical field signatures, and advanced equipment that enables effective operations in challenging operational conditions. Vessels of this class are a key element in securing sea areas and protecting strategic routes and critical infrastructure facilities.
We are pleased that the construction of ORP Czajka is progressing according to schedule, and as Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting, we are proud to be part of this strategic project.
