Launching of a hybrid ferry for Torghatten Nord AS!

On Friday, July 4th, at Remontowa Shipbuilding SA, we celebrated the successful launching of a hybrid passenger-car ferry being built for the Norwegian operator Torghatten Nord AS.

This marks an important milestone in the vessel’s construction schedule – the transition from the assembly phase to the outfitting stage.

This project is the result of close design and engineering cooperation, in which we are a key partner.
As RMDC, we were responsible for:
- the technical design of the electrical systems,
- detailed design,
- construction supervision,
- and preparation of delivery documentation.

The vessel is 63.65 meters long and 15.5 meters wide, with capacity for 149 people and 50 passenger cars. It features two azimuth thrusters powered by vertically mounted electric motors. The battery system will be charged from shore power during loading/unloading in port. The project prioritizes maximum energy efficiency through the use of lightweight materials and modern technical solutions, including an optimized hull shape, smart energy management, and low-consumption equipment.

The ferry will operate the Stornes–Bjørnerå route in the Troms region of Norway, with a crossing time of just 12 minutes. Delivery is scheduled for Q1 2026.

This is yet another milestone in our long-standing collaboration with Torghatten Nord, which began back in 2009.

Congratulations to all teams involved in bringing this project to life!
